1. What do I need to run Enercom 2000?

Enercom 2000 requires Windows 95/98/ME/XP/NT or 2000. Enercom requires one serial port in addition to the mouse. Most new desktop computers have one or two serial ports, identified as 9-pin, male (pins sticking out), trapazoid-shaped connectors on the back of the computer. If a notebook is equipped with a serial port, and it will have one male 9-pin connector. New notebooks do not have this connector, and will require a USB-Serial adapter.
Older computers: If you are running Windows 3.1(1), you must download and install Enercom version 7.5. Some old desktops have a 25-pin serial port, which will require a 25-to-9 pin cable AND a null modem.

2. Where do I get Enercom 2000?

Enercom 2000 can be downloaded from the software section of our website. You can also call the factory for a free CD containing the newest version of the software.

3. How do I install Enercom 2000?

If you have the CD in your drive, run the Startup.exe program and click Install Enercom. If you've downloaded the software, you should have saved a file Enercom2K.exe to your computer. Run this file to decompress the installation program. Choose a directory save the install files temporarily. Then run the SETUP.EXE program that you will find in that directory.

NOTE: If this is the first time you are installing Enercom 2000, you will most likely have to reboot your computer and re-run the setup program. Follow the instructions and you will be OK.

4. How do I communicate with my Enerac?

  • Turn on your Enerac.
  • Models 2000(e), & 3000(e): Bypass any messages so that "Insert Probe In Stack" is displayed.
  • Connect your Enerac with the serial cable provided to the serial port of your computer.
  • Start Enercom. Your Enerac should appear as an icon on the left side of the Enercom screen.

5. What should I do if I have communication problems with my Enerac?

If you have established communication before, but are having difficulty now,

  • Turn your Enerac Models 2000(e), & 3000(e) off and on, or
  • Reset your Enerac Model 500 & 700, and
  • Reboot your computer.

If you have never established communication before, try the following:

  • Right-click the serial port icon and choose properties.
  • Select 1200 baud for Models 2000(e), & 3000(e). Select 9600 baud for models 200, 400, 500 & 700.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Refresh at the bottom of the screen to establish communication.

If you still do not see your Enerac on the left of the screen:

  • Try another serial cable.
  • Toggle Serial Polarity (DTE/DCE). Open the access panel on the Enerac (models 2000(e) & 3000(e)) and flip the toggle switch next to the printer. If you have a different Enerac model (i.e. 2000, 500) and are using an older computer (pre-1995) with a 25-pin serial port, remember that you require a Null Modem.
  • Click Refresh to establish communication.

If you still do not see your Enerac on the left of the screen:

  • Does the light next to the serial port of the Enerac come on? This would indicate that the Enerac is receiving data from the computer.
  • Right click on the serial port icon and choose Terminal. Type "LOGO?" (without quotation marks) and hit ENTER. Do you get a response?
  • While in the Terminal program, press the DUMP key on the Enerac. Does anything appear on the screen? If the data is garbled, the Baudrate is incorrect.

If you still have difficulties, the Enerac must be reutrned to the factory for repair.
